In-Office CT Imaging Scans
The Xoran MiniCAT is a CT scanner specifically designed to capture images that demonstrate portions of the patient’s sinuses and ears. A high resolution, digitally versatile CT image is then immediately available on the computer monitor. The scanner creates CT slices as thin as 0.2 mm, with instant views of hundreds of image planes. This isotropic resolution and full range of data provides providers with the information they need to diagnose and treat patients.
● Fast & Effective: Scan times are less than a minute and can be performed and reviewed on the same day.● Low-Dose: Exposure to radiation has been minimized by approximately 90% compared to traditional CT scans● Cost-Effective: In-Office Scans save patients money and time delays from having to go to another facility.● Spacious: Patients are not confined to a tube, minimizing claustrophobia.● Upright Design: Strain is reduced for both adult and pediatric patients.
Culture Swabs
Culture swabs are a quick and safe method to help identify possible bacterial and/or fungal growth allowing providers to determine how to most effectively treat infections. A culture swab is obtained in seconds via the providers by collecting a sample of discharge which can be through direct visualization or endoscopically. The sample is then sent and processed by a laboratory to analyze and provide results.
Tympanometry
Tympanometry is a test that assesses the middle ear by measuring how your eardrum (also known as the tympanic membrane) responds to changes in air pressure. This can help with assessments concerning concerns including infection or fluid in the middle ear space, eardrum perforation, and Eustachian tube blockages.
A handheld probe-type device called a tympanometer is inserted into your ear for a few minutes where you may feel a seal and hear a hum. While the probe is in your ear, it is best to minimize movement, talking, and swallowing. Results are then recorded and processed onto a graph called a tympanogram in the office and reviewed with you by the providers on the same visit.
Diagnostic Scopes
Scopes (including endoscopes, laryngoscopes, and otoscopes) utilize rigid rods or flexible tubes with small cameras, lights, and mirrors to provide detailed visualization of the nasal/sinus cavities, throat/vocal cords, and/or external ears/ear canals.
During this procedure, providers may also be able to:
● Evaluate prior surgical results, scars, openings, masses, polyps, and other structures.● Obtain drainage/specimens to send for laboratory culture/pathology evaluation.● Remove old blood, foreign material, packing, scabs, scars, and other blockages as needed.● Evaluate progress of healing after sinus surgery
The rod/tube is inserted into the patient’s passage carefully by a provider. Providers may look directly through the endoscope or via a video feed. Patients may sometimes be able to follow along in the visualization through the video feed. It is best practice to remain still and to let the providers know if you need to sneeze and/or if you are in pain, so they can quickly and safely disengage the scope.
Scopes allow the providers to immediately assess patient symptoms, which allows them to discuss results and treatment plans with patients on the same visit. Patients can also return to normal activities after scopes.
